General Teaching Council for England
Seminar 2: Schools and school nurses
23 March 2010, central London
11am – 2.30pm

This seminar series is looking at the working relationships between teachers and other children’s workforce professionals with whom they collaborate to achieve the Every Child Matters outcomes for children and young people.

The seminar will enable participants to:

  • Explore, collaboratively, their analysis of what supports and impedes their work together
  • Hear about and interrogate the latest research on the relationship between schools and nurses, and consider its implications for their work
  • Influence policy makers

We are looking for a mixture of participants who are:
  • school nurses
  • teachers who work with school nurses – you may be a head teacher or a teacher with particular responsibilities that lead you to collaborate with a school nurse.

We would like some of our participants to be in working pairs – ie a teacher and a nurse who work together. Please indicate if you are applying in a pair.

The General Teaching Council is the independent regulatory body for the teaching profession. Our partner for this seminar is the Thomas Coram Research Unit at London University’s Institute of Education, which has recently completed a substantial investigation into the work of school nurses for the Department of Health.
We hope to attract teaching participants from primary and secondary schools. We are able to meet standard class travel and supply costs for registered teachers to participate in this event. Forms for claiming supply cover and travel expenses will be available at the end of the event. Please note that any travel arrangements should be by the most economical means and that train travel should be standard class.*

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, within participant categories (i.e. ensuring a balance between teachers and nurses).
If you would like to attend this seminar please contact Nisha Patel at the GTC as soon as possible by email at nisha.patel@gtce.org.uk or on 020 7023 3905.

*For registered teachers the GTC will contribute towards actual supply cover costs of up to £145 for a full day (£175 for schools sited within Greater London) when evidenced by a copy invoice or other suitable proof of costs. In the absence of such evidence the contribution will be restricted to £135.
