PSHE Association and the Secondary Curriculum -Subject Specific (PSHE education) Support work Phase 2

The PSHE Association is one of ten national subject associations working with CfBT education trust and ASPECT (Association of Professionals in Education and Children's Trusts) to deliver subject-specific support to schools and advisers for PSHE education (personal well-being; economic well-being and financial capability), citizenship, history, geography, design & technology, languages, art & design, physical education, religious education and music in the new secondary curriculum.

The subject associations are also working with a number of delivery partners to further help schools implement the new curriculum, including QCDA, DCSF, NCSL, SSAT, SNS, QIA.

Support will continue to be delivered through a network of National Subject Leadership (NSLs) (through the subject associations) and a field force of Regional Subject Advisers (RSAs) for each of the ten subjects.

For PSHE education there is an RSA in each region comprising expertise in personal wellbeing (PWB) and economic wellbeing and financial capability (EWBFC)

The PSHE education RSAs work for approximately 2 days per month and are a mix of teachers and advisers.  Many of the advisers are Healthy Schools Coordinators or PSHE CPD Leads; others come from a careers or business and enterprise background.  RSAs are expected to engage with LA colleagues to enhance regional and local capacity to support schools with PSHE education.  RSAs will also be networking with business / enterprise / careers / economic education colleagues, replicating what is currently starting to happen nationally.

Following a series of Regional Briefing Events the RSAs are available to provide information and support to school subject leaders. Ideally this will happen via collaboration with Local Authorities. As well as seeking further advice and guidance, schools may wish to submit exemplars of their own subject curriculum plans and developments.

Details of the RSAs supporting your region and your Local Authority as well as other information about the new secondary curriculum can be found on this website and on the QCA website http://curriculum.qca.org.uk/ and the new secondary curriculum website which has a lot of useful support material including case studies for implementation

Contacts

The PSHE Association and CfBT are working together to help support teachers with the implementation of the new secondary curriculum. To help with this we have employed Regional Subject Advisers (RSA's)

The RSA's will provide a first point of contact for school participants seeking further advice and guidance or wishing to submit exemplars of their own subject curriculum plans and developments.
