About us

The PSHE Association

The PSHE Association (formally the PSHE Subject Association) was set up in 2006 with initial DCSF funding to help support PSHE practitioners across all phases to raise the quality of PSHE teaching and raise its' status in the curriculum.

We are a fee paying membership organisation and registered charity and company limited by guarantee*.

Membership fees go toward running events and conferences, commissioning specific pieces of support work, producing publications, campaigning, developing the website and support for members.

Our aim is to work closely with our members, developing effective practice and support mechanisms and resources; representing views to government, other bodies and the media and influencing policy and perceptions of PSHE.

We welcome feedback and involvement of  practitioners at all levels. This is an association "for members by members".

The PSHE Association provides:

  • access to current and developing PSHE knowledge and expertise
  • access to criteria for, and examples of, effective practice
  • regular PSHE updates, information and briefing sheets and other publications
  • a website designed to support PSHE knowledge and skills
  • opportunities to network with other PSHE professionals – belong to a PSHE ‘community of practice’
  • opportunities to play an active part in developing and promoting PSHE teaching and learning for example through action research and by gaining access to and using results and analysis of research
  • a voice in national policy development
  • guidance on selecting PSHE resources, training courses etc.
  • links with and learning from the PSHE CPD and Healthy Schools programmes
  • a national conference and other curriculum events and seminars

The PSHE Association is made up of:

Three renumerated staff, assisted by an Advisory Council elected by the membership, and a Chair.
We are overseen and guided by a small Board of Trustees.

We are also currently involved in a secondary curriculum project employing consultants to help support the work.

The PSHE Association's membership is made up of:

PSHE practitioners and teaching professionals from all phases, but also PSHE consultants, Local Authority advisers, school nurses, associated organisations and individuals.

Strength in numbers is important; a large and growing membership helps us to develop and present a strategic vision for PSHE education, representing the views of the professional community to national policy makers together with government agencies and partners.
