Positive Guidance on Aspects of PSHE

National Children’s Bureau launches:

Positive Guidance on Aspects of Personal, Social and Health Education
National Children’s Bureau, 2006
Stephen De Silva and Simon Blake

As you know, good PSHE and Citizenship provision is pivotal to the delivery of the five ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes for children and young people in schools. Through our national PSHE programme, the National Children’s Bureau works with government, schools, children’s services and other partners to promote PSHE and Citizenship that is integral to children and young people’s wellbeing and emotional and social development.

Produced to support practitioners in secondary schools, NCB’s most recent Spotlight publication, ‘Positive Guidance on Aspects of Personal, Social and Health Education’ showcases innovative approaches to the delivery of planned PSHE including active learning, drama techniques and the social norms approach.

It will also resource the work of those within children’s services and the wider children’s workforce who support PSHE by providing a clear summary of some recent developments that could be used to support effective classroom practice in particular.

This publication was developed with funding from the Home Office, whose Blueprint drug education programme had found that teachers required continuing support in delivering PSHE. A copy of this publication has been sent to Headteachers of all maintained secondary schools in England.
