Regional Subject Adviser (RSA) PSHE education

Job Description

Key roles and responsibilities:

General.

Act as an advocate for PSHE education (and thereby children and young people’s entitlement to quality provision) and an ambassador for the PSHE Association.

Contribute to positive changes within education by promoting and supporting Personal, Social, Health and Economic education and a whole-school approach to the new secondary curriculum.

Play a central role in delivering key themes, messages and objectives alongside other education colleagues and delivery partners in order to achieve effective and sustainable outcomes.

· Establish and maintain contact and positive working relationships between local, regional and national associates and stakeholders.

 

Specific.

Maintain a local overview of the PSHE Subject Specific Support project and regularly report back to the PSHE Association in accordance with contractual requirements to ensure outputs are delivered to time, cost and quality specifications.

Directly support schools, and other PSHE colleagues (such as within Local Authorities) via a range of communication channels inclusive of maintaining existing networks and acting as a first point of contact of information and support for the new secondary curriculum (PSHE education)

Contribute to subject specific sessions at regional briefing events for school subject leaders, teachers and Local Authority Advisers to ensure effective dissemination of key themes and objectives, materials, resources and information.

Coordinate and facilitate local and regional meetings, training events and conferences according to local need and existing LA support structures and services.

Contribute to the development and review of resources to support PSHE education (addressing subject leadership in personal well-being; economic well-being and financial capability programmes of study and organisation and coordination of PSHE education within the curriculum)

Collate and develop case studies and innovative practice materials for inclusion on the QCA and/or PSHE Association websites.

Establish and maintain administrative and quality assurance processes to ensure the project work is managed efficiently and fulfils contractual requirements.

Employ effective procedures and processes to effectively communicate information and updates sent via the PSHE Association for dissemination to a wide audience.

Liaise with other Regional Subject Advisers across the breath of curriculum support, ASPECT advisers, PSHE CPD and local Healthy Schools Advisers, and regional contacts from partner organisations such as Pfeg and ACEG.

Assist with the broader work of the PSHE Association in understanding and responding to the relevant issues and needs of schools and local authorities relating to PSHE education and communicating informed messages to policy makers.

 

Person Specification

 

· CPD: evidence of leading/facilitating continuing professional development opportunities for school based practitioners

· Subject management or specialism: subject leader/ coordinator/ adviser/AST for areas within Personal, Social, Health Economic education (Personal Social Health Education, Careers Education, Business and Enterprise Education, Financial Education, Work Related Learning)

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Reflective practitioner

· Ability to work as part of a team and wider network

· Experience of curriculum development and innovation

· Good organisational skills and ability to work objectively and meet deadlines maintain key dates and monitor progress within fixed time frames.

· A commitment to the work of the PSHE association
