This free training day for PSHE leads will support you to plan and teach this controversial and challenging aspect of the PSHE education curriculum.

Who should attend:

PSHE leads and coordinators and teachers working in the secondary phase or equivalent.

Course overview:

It can be difficult to know how to effectively challenge extremism, in all its forms, through education. This one-day training event aims to explore the factors which might make a child or young person vulnerable to radicalisation and increases understanding of the protective factors which PSHE education can develop. It also provides practical solutions to plan, develop and review your PSHE education curriculum provision to effectively safeguard learners. Funded by the Home Office, this free training day is aimed at PSHE coordinators to support the development of the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to teach this controversial and challenging aspect of the PSHE education curriculum. You will also receive a USB stick full of useful materials and resources.

Following the session, delegates will have:

  • awareness of the skills and attributes PSHE education develops to support resilience to extremist ideologies of all kinds
  • an increased understanding of extremism, the process of radicalisation and  of PSHE education’s role in safeguarding pupils, in line with schools’ statutory duties.
  • increased confidence in effectively mapping and planning curriculum provision across key stages
  • knowledge of resources to support safe and effective lesson delivery
  • awareness of how to manage challenges presented by this sensitive curriculum area
  • techniques for evidencing your school’s work on preventing extremism and radicalisation
