‘Extremists’ lesson plan by TrueTube

‘Extremists’ lesson plan by TrueTube

Thanks to funding from the ‘Building a Stronger Britain Together’ initiative, TrueTube and the PSHE Association are pleased to introduce lesson materials to accompany the TrueTube video clip ‘Extremists’. The video highlights how people may come to hold opposing extremist views, and addresses the emotions and experiences connected to those views. The lesson helps young people build resilience to extremist ideologies and manage disagreements with someone who holds opposing views.

The lesson is designed to be taught as part of a broader PSHE programme exploring issues related to diversity, conflict resolution and the need to challenge stereotypes. It can also be used to support cross-curricular PSHE education learning through subjects such as Citizenship, RE and History.

PSHE Association Subject Specialist Trishna Gautama comments that:
“This lesson addresses the complex nature of extremism by opening up discussions about factors that influence our views and the importance of critically engaging with different sources of information. It gives students the opportunity to focus on actions that can positively affect change and resolve disagreements to promote safer communities.”
