CRESST: Curious about conflict?
These lesson plans from CRESST will support you to teach key stage 3 students about the causes of conflict and how to manage it, both online and in face-to-face situations.
This six lesson pack is designed to help students to recognise conflict warning signs, analyse different responses to conflict scenarios and de-escalate conflict situations should they arise. Students also learn ways to respectfully disagree with others during debate, including when conflicts arise online.
This set of lessons will help students to:
- identify what conflict is and why it starts
- analyse different responses to conflict and consider when each might be appropriate
- de-escalate conflict situations with friends and family
- manage conflict online
- engage in respectful disagreements
The lessons will support schools to cover statutory RSE guidance content relating to ‘respectful relationships’.
The full set of lessons and guidance is available from CRESST for the one-off cost of £150; the learning route-map and lesson 1 are freely available.
PSHE Association Subject Specialist Jenny Fox says:
“We are delighted to award our Quality Mark to CRESST’s scheme of work: Curious about Conflict? This set of lessons will support students to manage conflict in relationships, both in school and at home. Students explore the causes of conflict, and how to manage it, through a range of interactive and relatable activities. These lessons will empower students to respectfully disagree, both in person and online, and to handle conflict well”
