Curriculum audit spreadsheets

Gauge the extent to which your PSHE education programme covers the Programme of Study and DfE Statutory Guidance.

Audit your current programme against the Programme of Study and DfE Statutory Guidance

New for 2021, our curriculum audit tools are designed to support PSHE Leads and their colleagues to map their PSHE education provision, including the statutory content, against both the DfE Statutory Guidance for Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health education (sometimes known as RHE/RSHE ) and the PSHE Association Programme of Study for Key Stages 1 to 5.

Why are there two different curriculum audits?

The Curriculum Audit: DfE Statutory Guidance allows you to identify the extent to which your current PSHE education programme covers the statutory Relationships education, Relationships and Sex education and Health education (RHE/RSHE) content. Whilst the DfE statutory guidance sets out what schools must cover, it does not include everything schools should cover as part of broader PSHE education. The Curriculum audit: Programme of Study allows you to gauge the extent to which your programme covers not only the statutory content but also the vital learning on economic wellbeing, careers and enterprise, media literacy, personal safety, and assessing and managing risk, that your pupils need to equip them to manage the opportunities and challenges they face now and in the future, and to thrive in life and work.

Using the audit tools
  • Both the primary and secondary spreadsheets include separate sheets for each section of the DfE statutory guidance, i.e Relationships Education and Health Education (primary) and RSE and Health Education (secondary).

The columns on each sheet set out the topics and content bullet points from the statutory guidance, with a drop-down column for you to ‘RAG rate’ each bullet point in red, amber or green depending on the extent to which you currently cover that content.

There is also a column for you to identify cross-curricular links with other subjects and a final column for your own notes.

  • The Programme of Study curriculum audit spreadsheets include separate sheets for each key stage across each of the three core themes (Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World).

The columns on each page set out the topics and learning opportunities from the Programme of Study, with a drop-down column for you to ‘RAG rate’ each bullet point in red, amber or green depending on the extent to which you currently cover that content.

There is also a column for you to identify cross-curricular links with other subjects and a final column for your own notes.
