Dental health — home learning lessons on keeping teeth healthy

Dental health — home learning lessons on keeping teeth healthy

The lessons — along with our other home learning lessons on similar topics — will help support young people to maintain healthy and consistent routines during this challenging and uncertain period.

The key stage 1 lesson explores the importance of establishing and maintaining routines that support good oral hygiene, while the key stage 2 lesson supports pupils to reflect on everyday actions that can affect their teeth. The key stage 3 lesson encourages independence in maintaining dental health with pupils learning strategies for gaining access to NHS dental services.

These lessons help pupils to:

  • Understand how to keep teeth healthy and describe good oral hygiene routines
  • Identify the impact of diet and other everyday actions on teeth
  • Explain how to access dental services and the importance of regular check-ups

We are grateful to Dr. Trishna Patel, Health Education England Leadership Fellow, for her advice and support in producing these lessons.

The standard version of these lessons on dental health — coming soon — will support teachers to deliver these lessons in a school environment.
