Fertility and pregnancy choices

Guidance, lesson plans and resources for KS4-5

This lesson pack — comprising three lesson plans (PDF & PowerPoint options available), accompanying resources, guidance and a knowledge organiser — will ensure key stage 4 and 5 students receive factually accurate, impartial information on choices in relation to fertility and pregnancy.

The lessons will help students to:

  • understand how fertility changes over a person’s lifetime and the factors that may affect male and female fertility and healthy pregnancy
  • identify the different routes someone might take to becoming a parent
  • explore the options available in the event of an unplanned pregnancy and reflect on the reasons different people make different decisions with regard to their next steps
  • examine the facts, myths and laws surrounding abortion and where to access medical services and emotional support

PSHE Association Subject Specialist Liz Laming says:
“These lessons — linked to the statutory guidance — equip young people with the knowledge and understanding they need to make informed decisions related to fertility and becoming a parent in future.”
