#ImWithSam – Anti-disability discrimination resources for Key stage 3 by Dimensions
The PSHE Association has partnered with Dimensions charity to produce and quality assure resources that aim to raise awareness of people with learning disabilities and autism. The #ImWithSam resource offers a lesson plan and supporting materials for KS3 pupils, including full teacher guidance on delivery.
This free resource asks pupils to reflect on the impact of ways in which people with learning disabilities and autism are perceived, judged, described and treated. It also encourages them to question, challenge and change discriminatory behaviours.
The resources can be downloaded below but are also available on the Dimensions charity website
PSHE Association Subject Specialist Lucy Marcovitch says:
“This lesson challenges stereotypes and encourages pupils to empathise with adults with learning disabilities in an engaging, thoughtful and sensitive way, and offers excellent support and guidance for teacher delivery. When taught as part of a planned, progressive PSHE programme of learning, the lesson enables young people to develop essential knowledge, skills and attributes around issues of diversity and disability.”
These materials support the broader #ImWithSam campaign from Dimensions to tackle hate crime against people with learning disabilities and autism. It calls for measures to challenge intolerance and hate in schools, and promotes positive messages around difference. Find out more about the #ImWithSam campaign here on the Dimensions website.
