Medway Public Health Directorate: Managing Healthy and Unhealthy Relationship Behaviours

We are delighted to launch a new suite of lessons for members on managing healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviours, produced in partnership with Medway Public Health.
A timely resource for schools preparing to meet the statutory RSE requirements, the lessons will support your students to recognise the qualities of healthy relationships, exhibit healthy relationship behaviours, identify the features of unhealthy or unsafe relationships/family situations and know how to seek help if they or others are facing abusive circumstances. The resource contains teacher guidance and the following three lesson plans, available as both PDF lesson plans and interactive PowerPoints:
- Lesson 1: identifying healthy and unhealthy relationships: identifying features of healthy relationships and when a relationship may be unsafe.
- Lesson 2: managing conflict in relationships: exploring the nature of disagreements in a healthy relationship compared to unhealthy relationship conflict
- Lesson 3: addressing relationship abuse: identifying abusive relationship behaviours, sources of support and safe exit strategies
Medway Public Health Directorate have been working with the PSHE Association for a number of years to support teachers in their area to deliver high quality PSHE education and have kindly agreed to share these new materials with PSHE Association members across the country.
PSHE Association Subject Specialist Anne Bell said:
“It’s really important we get learning on abuse in relationships right, so we educate in line with evidence of best practice in PSHE education. As part of a developmental relationships and sex education programme, these materials can support teachers to plan relevant, safe lessons.”
