Progression frameworks for PSHE education (2010)
Four frameworks that assist secondary schools in planning progression and assessment in PSHE education based on the 2007 Programme of Study for PSHE education.
We recommend that teachers use the PSHE Association Programme of Study as their main guide for creating a PSHE programme in their school. However teachers can still use the 2007 Programmes of Study and the attached Progression Frameworks to inform their practice as they remain a useful guide.
Each set of concepts and processes, one set for each programme of study, have been deconstructed into three ‘levels’ and have been produced in two versions:
• A ‘teacher speak’ version to assist your planning and assessment
• A ‘learner speak’ version to enable young people to reflect on their own progression.
It is intended that these be used in conjunction with the end of key-stage statements.
The challenge has been to create a planning and assessment framework that is sufficiently robust as to be useful whilst allowing teachers the flexibility to select an appropriate and relevant context within which to develop these concepts and processes.
Schools that have piloted these frameworks have constructed their own learning and them reflected this against the frameworks to assess and adjust the degree of challenge this learning demands (see example materials in word doc below). Others have used the ‘learner speak’ versions to help construct self and peer assessment.
