Sex and Relationships Education Guidance DfE 2000
Guidance for SRE from the Department for Education*
This statutory guidance is for teachers, headteachers and governing bodies and applies to maintained schools, academies and free schools. All schools teaching SRE must have regard to this advice.
It aims to guide schools and teachers on some of issues they may have to deal with when teaching sex and relationship education and also outlines some practical strategies for teaching and addresses some of the issues for schools concerning confidentiality.
* In June 2019 the Department for Education launched the final statutory guidance to accompany introduction of compulsory health education, relationships education and relationships and sex education (RSE) in 2020. This guidance from 2000 expires at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year when it will be replaced by the new guidance.
