The Sleep Factor — home learning lesson plans on healthy sleep habits
This home learning pack will help your pupils to understand the importance of good quality sleep, and will encourage them to take responsibility for the quality of their sleep. This version was developed from our popular ‘Sleep Factor’ lesson plans, produced in partnership with sleep experts at the Evelina Children’s Hospital, London. Please use the standard version if delivering this material within the school environment.
The key stage 2 lesson explores the importance of bedtime routines and equips pupils with actions they can take to improve their sleep habits, while the key stage 3 lesson allows pupils to independently analyse the benefits of sleep and examine strategies for better sleep. At key stage 4 pupils consider the consequences of poor sleep habits and analyse behaviours that can help them manage sleep difficulties.
These lessons help pupils to:
- recognise what good quality sleep is and what the benefits of it are
- understand the importance of routines for promoting good quality sleep
- understand how sleep patterns change and how challenges in getting good quality sleep can be overcome
This pack forms part of our range of materials to support pupils learning at home during the coronavirus school closures. Visit www.pshe-association.org.uk/C-HUB for more lessons and guidance.
