Superbugs: Join the Fight by Pfizer

Superbugs: Join the Fight by Pfizer

Superbugs: Join the Fight provides a lesson plan and accompanying resources designed for key stage 2 and key stage 3 pupils, created by Pfizer. The lesson is designed to help pupils understand the relevant and growing health issue of superbugs: a strain of bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics. This learning can empower young people to stay healthy and take action to raise awareness of the issue. There is also an opportunity for schools and pupils to participate in the Superbugs: Join the Fight competition. This challenges pupils to come up with an idea to let people know about superbugs and how to stop them — promoting their creativity, confidence and problem solving skills.

The lessons support pupils to:

  • Understand what superbugs are and how they developed
  • Demonstrate routines for keeping healthy
  • Conduct a school wide hygiene audit
  • Devise ways to creatively communicate an important message

PSHE Association Subject Specialist Jenny Fox says:
“These lessons for primary and secondary pupils raise awareness of an important new health issue and provide practical advice about ways to tackle the superbugs problem. The lessons and accompanying materials are engaging, interactive and offer a suitable challenge to help pupils recognise the importance of staying healthy, and the competition element allows schools to celebrate what their pupils have learnt. We are pleased to award the quality mark to such a well-planned and thorough resource.”
