Teacher guidance: Teaching pupils with SEND about alcohol and other drugs

Our guidance on teaching pupils with SEND about alcohol and other drugs has been produced with funding from Public Health England and the Department for Education. It provides guidance on effective teaching of drug and alcohol education within a broader PSHE curriculum, and covers drug and alcohol content specified in the statutory requirements for Health Education. This guidance complements our suite of lesson plans and resources for pupils with SEND (KS2-4), available in PDF and PowerPoint formats.

The guidance covers key aspects of teaching about drug and alcohol education effectively in SEND settings, including:

Drug and alcohol teacher guidance front cover

Using and adapting the lesson plans
