The PSHE Association has welcomed an initiative launched by the Department for Education today to help schools to support pupils’ mental health. We will support this work by providing guidance to teachers on addressing mental health in the classroom.
PSHE is referenced in today’s Ofsted report as an important means of raising awareness of CSE and keeping pupils safe. Yet PSHE provision is still not good enough.
Following yesterday’s coverage of the Department for Education’s position on teaching about sexual orientation and faith schools, it is worth clarifying that the Equality Act 2010 sets expectations on all schools, including faith schools, to promote equality. It is also worth remembering that the overwhelming majority of schools, including faith schools, are working hard to do so.
