PSHE Association announces new Chief Executive

We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Chief Executive. Jonathan Baggaley, who is currently Head of Education at the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP), will take over from our current CEO, Joe Hayman in mid-September. Jonathan will be joining us in early September, enabling a short handover period before Joe steps down from the role.

Commenting on Jonathan’s appointment, Chair of Trustees Carol Beaumont said:

“We were very pleased by the field of talented and experienced applicants who put themselves forward for the role of Chief Executive, and are delighted to have appointed Jonathan. He demonstrated exceptional understanding of the PSHE education community and the policy environment in which the Association operates. He shares our values and commitment to keeping all children healthy and safe and preparing them for life and work in modern Britain. He has the skills and expertise to help us realise that ambition and given his experience at CEOP, he has a crucial understanding of issues relating to exploitation and abuse, particularly in the online world – an issue we know is a big consideration for parents across the country. I know like myself and my colleagues on the Association’s board of trustees, partners and members will look forward to working with Jonathan when he takes over in September.”

Jonathan said:

“The PSHE Association is an exceptional organisation serving a dedicated community, and I’m thrilled to be joining the team. I have seen first-hand the difference high quality PSHE education makes to children’s life chances and believe it is the firm foundation all children need to stay safe, be healthy and thrive in the face of the considerable challenges of the 21st century. Joe’s brilliant work at the Association has raised the profile of the subject and proved the support it has amongst pupils and parents. I look forward to continuing this work to ensure that every child and young person is given the opportunities PSHE education provides.”

Current Chief Executive Joe Hayman added:

“Having had the privilege of working with Jonathan over recent years, I am delighted that he has been appointed. I know he shares our community’s values and has the skills, experience and the nous to be a success in this important and challenging role.”
